Has the unthinkable happened in your life? Has it left you feeling numb and unsure of what to do next? If so, here are eight practical things you can do during a crisis:
1. Acknowledge God. (Proverbs 3:6)
He is present with you. He is ruling over the situation. He cares for you. He will provide the wisdom, strength and grace needed. As this wisdom principle teaches: you lean into trusting Him, He will make straight your paths.
2. Confess your weakness. (James 4:6)
Don’t try to say I have it all under control. Admit your limits and lean into God’s infinite power. Remember, God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. You need His grace each and every day, especially during a crisis.
3. Praise God. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Cultivate a grateful heart. You will sink into grumbling and complaining-aka audible discontentment- if you do not nurture words of praise. Cannot think of anything? Start with the cross, friend. We have so much to be thankful for.
4. Immerse yourself in the Word. (Hebrews 4:12)
No One knows you better than Christ. No book will get to the heart of a person or situation like God’s Word. Saturate yourself with truth and wisdom.
5. Do things differently. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
What things need to be taken off your plate? What can you delegate in this season? You cannot operate the same way as when you were in a non-crisis season. Change your approach. Do so with wisdom, and counsel if necessary.
6. Avoid mind-numbing habits. (Colossians 3:16)
…such as overindulging in food or tv. Put off “checking out” at the end of your day and instead “put on” the Word and prayer.
7. Stay connected with godly friends. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
We’re called to encourage one another and bear one another’s burdens. We cannot do so without staying connected. Now is not the time to pull away.
8. Refresh others. (Proverbs 11:25)
“He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. ” It’s easy to focus on yourself during a crisis. Do the opposite of what you feel, and go encourage someone. Speak life and truth into a fellow friend and see if this wisdom principle does not prove true.
