Love is Patient

Patience is the capacity to accept delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. How’s that for a definition!

If you have been married for any amount of time, you know that patience is an area you are always growing in. Without question there are going to be challenges and even seasons of intense suffering as you learn to love your husband with Christ’s love.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” so give grace and accept grace. Learning patience will take t-i-m-e. And it will be an ongoing part of your marriage because patience is evidence of an inner strength that is relying only on God.

Wishing versus accepting

One of my greatest lessons as a wife in the area of patience has been when I stopped “wishing” certain things would change and began “accepting” the difficulties as paths for greater growth. The Lord in His sovereignty may not have caused the hard roads but He allowed it.

From finances and parenting to intimacy and communicating – it’s us learning how to be “good stewards” of those difficult seasons and learning to exercise patience with joy in the midst! Col. 1:11 What seems impossible with man is possible with God. Remember that!

Fill your heart with hope

Waiting, trusting and knowing that the Lord uses everything for our good and His glory is a gospel truth that fills hurting hearts with hope. It’s resting our minds on the character of God (not our spouses or the challenges we face).   This nurtures a love and a heart that is patient, one that endures the hard road with her spouse.

What difficulty might the Lord being using in your marriage right now to grow you in patience?

Here’s a few verses that have helped my own heart in difficult times: James 1:2-4 Romans 8:28. Isaiah 26:3. Look up and rely on God to strengthen you with a joyful patience that only He can provide.
